Sandstorm Vase
Thrown on the wheel into a tall, rather cylindrical silhouette, this vessel an exploration of control and surrender.
The magic of this piece lies entirely in its surface landscape. While the glazes layer and bleed together beautifully across most of the clay, there is a striking point of tension where they resisted and repelled each other. This abrupt naked spot exposes the raw clay beneath, breaking the rhythm and bringing a raw, unexpected interest to the form.
Because of this volatile alchemy in the kiln, each side of the cylinder tells a completely different story as you turn it. It is a statement artwork that carries its own sculptural presence when empty, though its straight lines also naturally ground a handful of tall, textured dry grasses or minimalist branches.
