Thrown on the wheel into a tall, cylindrical silhouette, this vessel is an exploration of control and surrender.
The magic of this piece lies entirely in its rich, surface landscape. While the lava glazes layer, bubble, and bleed together across most of the clay, there is a striking point of tension where they resisted and repelled each other. This abrupt exposed spot reveals the raw clay beneath, breaking the rhythm and bringing a raw, unexpected interest to the form.
Because of this volatile alchemy in the kiln, each side of the cylinder tells a completely different story as you turn it. It is a true statement artwork that carries its own sculptural presence when empty, though its clean lines also naturally ground a handful of tall, textured dry grasses or minimalist branches.
